About us
We are a group of people who are interested in political and social issues and enjoy discussing them with other people. You do not have to be a member of the Labour Party to join the Fabians, some of our most active members are outside the Labour Party and we welcome all to try our meetings. I you wish to become a voting member of the local or national Fabian Society you must be eligible to join the Labour party and not be a member of a party which is opposed to it. You can also apply for associate membership
We meet about once a month and invite a guest speaker to talk about a topical political issue. Afterwards there is always a discussion period (usually very lively) when all present are encouraged to contribute their knowledge and views. Speakers come from a wide diversity of backgrounds, politics, the media, government officials, Protest groups, there is no bar except that the subject of the discussion must be interesting. We respect the views of all participants.
We also have social and fund raising events to which all are welcome throughout the year
Nationally the Fabian Society is Britain’s oldest political think tank. Founded in 1884, the Society is at the forefront of developing political ideas and public policy on the left.

Joiners in the Autumn will be members through to the following year (i.e. more than 12 months)
Fabians is affiliated to the Labour Party
• Full Membership open to anyone except members of political parties other than Labour. Labour members can of course be members but Labour membership is not a requirement.
• Associate Membership (non-voting)is open to members of other parties.
• Affiliated to Labour Party and National Fabians.
• Labour Party membership not required. We are independently founded.
Costs and Benefits
Meetings with speakers normally 8pm on third Friday of Month (not normally May – Sept).
• 6 Meetings with invited speakers a year (£2 per meeting covers coffee and hire of hall)
• Annual membership (£10pa giving voting rights in the Labour party)
